Going to Baltimore for an allied healthcare assignment?

You're going to be visiting a city with one of the richest histories in the mid-Atlantic region. Baltimore has a legendary reputation -- and it's becoming a real hotspot for tourists and travelers who want to understand what this old-school U.S. city offers.

When you want to do more than what's on the average tourist’s itinerary, check out these interesting options for sightseeing and enjoying your next Baltimore assignment.

Beyond the Baltimore Aquarium

One of the most famous Baltimore landmarks is the Aquarium in the Inner Harbor-- but not everyone knows about what else is available in that immediate area. You can also check out the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore or the Maryland Science Center. There is also a lot of good shopping and dining walking distance from the Aquarium, including a nice indoor mall area where you can sample fudge or McCormick spices. Be sure to grab some Old Bay seasoning – distributed through facilities right in town.

Old Fells Point

The Fells Point neighborhood is one of the best kept secrets in Baltimore.

At first glance, it might seem like another historic neighborhood -- but there's a lot more to it than that. Those who have returned to Baltimore again and again to get a real authentic experience like to spend time in the Frederick Douglas-Isaac Myers Maritime Park, or visit the historic landmarks like the Robert Long house.

Enjoy over 100 beers on tap and 1,000 bottled beers at Max's Taphouse or get some of the flavors of Baltimore in local restaurants like One-Eyed Mike’s or Thames Street Oyster House.

Walk the Fells Point promenade or take a water taxi to see more of this scenic neighborhood. You might also get lucky enough to walk by one of many special events going on in the area, such as a Films on the Pier series or the Fells Point farmers market, as well as Christmas events and other seasonal goings-on.

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Another great place to visit is Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Opened in 1992, this venue has interesting historical baseball exhibitions and more. Sports freaks will enjoy this part of Baltimore that's not always featured on travel guides.

Spooky Stuff

Another choice for the paranormal enthusiast is to find interesting haunted pub crawls or walking ghost tours.

Baltimore has a lot of history -- so it has a lot of ghosts, too. Check out the Edgar Allen Poe museum downtown to learn more about one of the most well-known supernatural storytellers to ever come out of Baltimore, Maryland.
