This week, we sat down with Ryan Galli who started with Cross Country in October 2007.


What is your favorite part of working for Cross Country Allied?

By far my favorite part of the job is the variety. A desk job carries such a stigma of being repetitive and boring. This job is anything but that. I meet new people every day and I get to help them connect with some of the most prestigious positions in the country. 100’s of different conversations, problems, solutions, and opportunities every day. I live for that variety, they do say it’s the spice of life.

What advice would you give a new traveler with Cross Country Allied?

Evaluate your options and plan. It’s easy to get swept away by the romantic idea of traveling, but the true long term hardcore travelers will tell you without a couple of licenses, a plan, and a recruiter who you feel like you match up to personally you are going to run into roadblocks. A good recruiter will help you plan. I tell people all the time I’m like the GPS in their car, I provide you the info and a road map, but you ultimately drive the car.

What's your best memory in your time with Cross Country Allied?

I’ve had so many from the past but this one sticks out just recently. Our Allied team is divided in two offices (both Naperville and Boca Raton Florida). This year we finally got the entire gang together and everyone was under one roof at our corporate headquarters. It was such an empowering feeling to be with this massive group of your peers, people you’ve work with for years, and shared ideas with. It was a good moment to take stock of just how far the little company I joined in 2007 had evolved.

Within your current role, what motivates you towards success?

I’m constantly motivated by the people who work for me. I believe I personally place the best people in healthcare. That sounds like a line, but it’s true. As I write this, professionals I put to work are saving people lives. Someone will get another day with their family, or have their lives saved by the early detection that my traveler caught on a routine scan. I’ve spent the last decade trying to find those people and bringing them to facilities that need them all across the country.

Outside of the office, what are you most passionate about?

My wife and my three-year-old son are the center of my attention. We love to travel, we’re weekend adventurers if you will. We camp a lot in the summer time at a lake we have a spot at and we spend a good bit of time seeing everything we can see in the winter when we can’t use our lake property. I’m also really into podcasts lately, there’s some amazing stories out there.

If you won a dream vacation to anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I have spent so much time filling positions in Alaska and I’ve never spent time there. We get these amazing positions in Alaska, and my travelers send me the most amazing photos, and videos, so I feel that “call of the wild”. My mom had this trunk full of post cards from my Great Aunt who lived in Alaska in the early 1900’s working as a secretary. It’s always fueled my curiosity.  However, if I had it my way, I’d do it on a Disney Cruise with my family so I could get that lap of luxury feel of a vacation to go with my rugged Alaska adventure.  If you have a family I cannot recommend a Disney cruise enough.

What's an interesting fact about you that most people wouldn't know?

I started my professional career as a teacher and kind of lucked into this. I taught about a year as a special education teacher and I was having a hard time adjusting to it. I decided on an off chance to look and see what else might be out there and suddenly on my first job from the temp agency I landed here. Ten years later I can tell you it’s maybe the best decision I’ve ever made.

What’s your best advice for someone at a job fair?

It’s just like any other buying decision. It’s like going out and buying a car. You look for not only the best vehicle but also the thing that makes the most sense for you and what makes you the most comfortable. People look at job seeking as if the employer is calling all the shots. Not true, at a job fair employers are seeking you. This maybe one of the best times to ask questions, dig deeper, and get a real feel for your future travel company. Research, communication, and gut feeling should play a factor in any decision you make!

 How can a job seeker stand out at a job fair?

The more prepared you are the better! It’s one of the slim times you get to talk to someone that can make a real hiring decision. If you’re looking to find a job you should be armed with a resume and contact information and stop at as many tables as you can.

Should travelers bring pets with them on an assignment?

This makes it harder and more difficult. Pet fees are outside the normal costs, so the traveler is responsible for that. But, pets and friends could lead to additional fees. It is easier for people to travel because of work from home opportunities. With spouses and being able to work remotely its opened the door for people to do this earlier in their lives.
