As a CT tech, you are key in helping patients and their physicians get answers to their healthcare concerns. You’re an integral member of the diagnostic team, and you can work with patients of all ages with a range of conditions often affecting the head, neck, chest, and spine. There are travel CT tech positions in settings including:
The median CT tech salary was $59,520 in 2018, with the lowest 10 percent earning less than $40,630 and the highest 10 percent earning more than $86,350 according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Travel CT tech salary reflects the salary range of permanent CT techs; however, travel CT tech pay is in the form of hourly compensation through their travel CT tech company. In addition to their hourly pay, travel CT techs who work with Cross Country Allied receive referral bonuses, comprehensive health benefits, subsidized or free housing, and more!
Over the next decade, demand for CT techs is projected to grow by 12-13 percent, which is faster than the average for all occupations according to the BLS. Increase in conditions like cancer and Alzheimer’s disease in the growing aging population will drive the demand for imaging professionals.
If you want to become a CT tech, you will typically need an associate’s degree; however, a bachelor’s degree may be considered more valuable to employers. Degree courses usually include anatomy, pathology, radiation physics and protection, image evaluation, and patient care. You will likely have supervised clinical hours as part of your education. Your program should be accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
In many cases, you may pursue a CT technology certificate program through a college, university, hospital or tech program. You can apply for certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). This certification is not mandatory but may be used for licensing in some states. Depending on your state, you may need to have a state license or certification.
