Respiratory Care Week is an annual event from the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) that provides recognition to professionals like you in the respiratory care field and promotes awareness for improving lung health worldwide. It will take place October 23 through October 29 this year and is your opportunity to highlight lung health to both fellow healthcare professionals and the community in a variety of educational and interactive ways.

Get started planning your Respiratory Care Week celebration with these ideas.

Purchase Some Merchandise

Show the world you're a respiratory care professional by treating yourself to some official Respiratory Care Week promotional items. You could see if your manager is okay with the whole group getting T-shirts and wearing them sometime during the week. Beyond clothing, you could also get something you could use every day, such as a lanyard or coffee cup.

If someone sees you using it, it can be a great conversation starter to promote respiratory care.

Share Your Story

Respiratory Care Week is intended to promote awareness of the field, and putting a personal touch to the field by sharing your story is more likely to get people engaged and really understanding the impact of your profession. Consider submitting a story to the AARC related to respiratory care, such as what made you pursue the field or a touching story about a patient whose life was positively impacted because of respiratory care.

Expand Your Knowledge

Take this time to renew your passion for your work and dedicate yourself to being the best respiratory care professional you can be by proactively making the choice to pursue regular education beyond your workplace duties and professional requirements. Review the AARC site regularly for opportunities to attend webinars or receive newsletters to stay up-to-date about what's going on in your field beyond the office you work in.
